COVID-19: Olowu Commends FG, Makes Case For Osun.
Lifts About 2,000 Residents
As part of his characteristic measures to cushion the effects of Corona virus in Nigeria, the Olowu of Kuta, HRH Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, while distributing relief materials to about 2,000 residents, has equally lauded President Muhammadu Buhari and the Presidential Task Force for being proactive to curtail the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus.
Olowu in a Press Briefing During the flag off of “Olori Fatima Adeola makama Oyelude 2nd Community Empowerment Initiatives” held today at his palace square in Kuta, said the effort of the federal government has paid off as the lockdown is virile and now that it’s being eased, urges caution and Critical appraisal of Situations before total resumption of Activities, lives should be Above Economic Consideration and social activity that has being in limbo in the last 40 days.
While acknowledging and appreciating the federal government for the 1,800 bags of rice donated to Osun, the revered monarch, however, urged the PTF to do more in term of financial assistance such as was rendered to Lagos, Ogun and the FCT in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
Olowu, who had earlier sought the assistance of the federal government immediately after the index case and the Ejigbo returnees from Abidjan increased phenomenal the number of people with Coronavirus in the state, stated such gesture is predicated on the fact that Osun is not financially buoyant before the COVID-19 which has further put more pressure on the lean resources of the state and her manager.
In his words “I think the federal government has done so well in curtailing the COVID-19 and we must commend them. Even, those who had predicted doom for Africa based on the way the rampaging COVID-19 humbled some of the developed world with better healthcare infrastructure cannot but commend the Buhari led government for its comportment which has led to the reduction in fatality recorded since February 27 when the index case was detected”
“ State like Osun deserves financial assistance to augment its lean financial resources in order for the state government not to grind to a halt. The federal government can also grant debt relief or moratorium for Osun state so as to be on sound footing post COVID-19.” Olowu said.
He, however, commiserated with President Buhari over the death of his chief of staff, Malam Abba Kyari and other Nigerians who have lost loved ones to the COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Olowu, has also announced that the 2nd Edition of Olori Fatima Adeola makama Oyelude annual empowerment program is being flag off today Friday with emphasis on COVID-19 palliatives to support the government as his modest contribution to the well being of his people during this trying time.
He explained that vulnerable people such as widows, orphans and less privileged in Owu Kuta will be given foodstuffs and various sum of cash to augment their feeding.
“This is our little way of giving back to the society as a royal father and to support our governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola who is doing a good job towards improving the well being of our people” Olowu added.
It could be recalled that Olori Fatima Adeola Yakama Oyelude has earlier distributed relief items to thousands of residents of Osogbo, the state capital. Oba Makama thanked Nigerians for their cooperation as he called for holistic prayers for the country and her leaders.
Identifying with the monarch at the distribution of the relief package are the member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Iwo,Ayedire and Ola Oluwa Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Abuja, Hon. Yinusa Akintola Amobi and the Executive Chairman of Ayedire Local Government, Hon. Mukaila Oladejo.
